How Halifax SMBs Can Get $10,000 for Digital Automation

If you run a small or medium business in Halifax and you have been putting off automating your operations because of cost, there is a program worth knowing about. The AI Digital Adoption Program (AI DAP), delivered by Digital Nova Scotia in partnership with the Province of Nova Scotia and ACOA, offers eligible businesses up to $8,500 + HST to implement AI tools and automation workflows. That brings the total value to just under $10,000 in funded implementation work.

Here is what the program covers, who can access it, and how Halifax Automation can help you navigate the process.

What the Digital Adoption Program Nova Scotia Grant Covers

The AI Digital Adoption Program is structured in two phases.

First, two senior leaders at your company complete an AI Leadership Training program, delivered asynchronously through NSCC. It runs about 15 hours and is designed for owners, executives, or managers involved in strategic decisions. You do not need a technical background.

Once the training is complete, your organization becomes eligible to apply for the AI Adoption Grant. This grant covers up to 75% of eligible project costs, to a maximum of $8,500 + HST. Your business pays the remaining 25%.

Eligible implementation projects include things like:

  • Automated workflows and process automation (for example, using tools like n8n or Make)

  • AI-assisted customer service, intake, or scheduling systems

  • CRM and data pipeline integrations

  • Document processing and reporting automation

  • Any AI tool or system that creates measurable operational improvement

You do not need a fully defined project scope before applying. Part of the process involves working with an assigned consultant to scope and plan your project before a delivery partner is brought in to build it.

Worth noting: the AI DAP can also be stacked with other provincial and federal programs, including ACOA business development funding and workforce training support, depending on your project scope and situation.

Who Qualifies

The program is designed for small and medium-sized businesses in Nova Scotia. To be a strong candidate, your organization should:

  • Be incorporated and operating in Nova Scotia

  • Have senior leadership willing to complete the online AI training (approximately 15 hours)

  • Have a genuine operational challenge that AI or automation could address

  • Be ready to contribute 25% of project costs (roughly $2,000 to $3,000 depending on scope)

Applications are reviewed against a scoring rubric that weighs leadership participation, readiness to apply training outcomes, alignment with program goals, and your organization's capacity to support implementation. Completing the training does not automatically guarantee grant approval, but a well-prepared application significantly improves your odds.

Halifax-based businesses across sectors have benefited from this type of funding: trades and construction companies, healthcare providers, professional services firms, logistics and distribution operations, and retail businesses have all found practical automation use cases that qualify.

How Halifax Automation Helps You Apply and Implement

This is where the process can either go smoothly or get complicated. Many businesses complete the training, apply, and then struggle to scope a project that is both fundable and actually useful. Or they get funding and work with a generic implementation partner who does not understand their operations.

Halifax Automation works with Halifax and Nova Scotia SMBs from the beginning of this process to the end. Here is what that looks like:

Before you apply, we help you identify which of your operations are the best candidates for automation, frame the project in language that scores well with the grant rubric, and make sure your application reflects a realistic, implementable plan.

During implementation, we build on a self-hosted digital infrastructure stack that your business owns and controls. That means automation workflows, integrations, and AI tools that do not lock you into expensive third-party subscriptions or disappear when a SaaS company changes its pricing.

After delivery, we provide documentation, training, and ongoing support so your team can actually use what we build.

We are a Halifax-based agency. We understand the Nova Scotia business landscape and have worked across sectors including professional services, construction and engineering, and healthcare-adjacent operations. We are not a national consulting firm matching you to whoever is available. You work directly with us.
